Ciaafrique interview with the founder and creative director of Afro-chique

Janice  Morrison is the founder and creative director of Afro-chique. Afro-chique which needs no introduction   on ciaafrique  is a ready-to-wear women's clothing & accessories brand that combines the cultural identity of African prints with the stylish influence of contemporary London.

Please introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi Ciaafrique readers, my name is Janice and I’m the Founder and Creative director Afro-Chique.

Any background in Fashion, what made you feel you could choose this career path?
My first job after graduating was with Marks & Spencer’s as a Visual merchandiser. I was then employed by River Island as a Mobile visual merchandiser. After this job, I began working in various fashion roles such as P.R, Personal shopping and Buying. Having taken on various roles within the fashion industry this has given me the knowledge and experience to start my own fashion business.

Is there any particular reason why you  chose to use Africans fabrics?
I am aware of my history and have made a conscious decision to reflect this through my choice of African textiles. I believe the bold prints and colors are characteristics of both African and Caribbean cultures. Western designers are sometimes timid when it comes to bright color and prints.

So your next collection will be when? And what should we expect?
My next collection will be ready before the end of 09 with limited edition lines being added for the festive season. You can expect structured shapes and tailoring.

Let's a bit personal here what can we find in your own closet?
You’d find an eclectic mix of Afro-Chique, vintage and high street.

What is the one thing you could not live without?
My heart! (she laughs). With regards to business it would be my blackberry and customers, personally it would be family and friends.

As a curvaliscious woman size  does matter to me. Do you make clothes for any type of body?
Afro-Chique designs clothes for real woman with hips and thighs, all my pieces can be altered if needed and we also offer a tailor made service.

What are some of your impression of this blog ( Ciaafrique)
I love this blog, it’s a great source of information for finding out about African fashion and a great platform to let others know about your designs. I love reading all the interviews with different African designers, so I was extremely pleased when I was asked to feature. It has grown form strength to strength, keep up the good work.

Than you for those compliments now where and how can we purchase your designs?
You can contact me threw my website www.afro-chique.com. I am currently setting up my studio/ showroom where you will be able to come and view the collections and make purchases via a personal appointments.

Any last words?
confirms that modern femininity is about strength, identity and attitude.

Thank you very  much for your time  today i can 't wait to see your new collection
Thank you ciaa !!
